The Jamaica Information Services’ (JIS) Public Relations and Marketing Department is one of the most dynamic PR & Marketing facilities within the Public Sector. The Department conceptualizes and executes public education campaigns and advertising programmes aimed at promoting a better understanding of the Government’s policies and programmes. The Department also provides services to non-governmental organizations including corporate entities and international agencies.

The department is referred to as the “engine” of the JIS, because it is uniquely positioned to drive output across all the production departments, including Radio, TV, Photo, Publications and Computer Services.

Hi, I am Michele Marius and I have created ICT Pulse to discuss Information and Communications Technology (ICT) issues from a Caribbean perspective.  My interest in this subject emerges from my decade-plus experience in telecommunications ICT policy, regulation. contracting and consulting, which has been developed in the Caribbean, Southeast Asia and the South Pacific.

Having returned to the Caribbean in 2010, and borne out of my own personal experience, I have observed that it can be quite challenging to appreciate the impact of key developments occurring in the ICT space, even if you work in industry. Through this blog I hope to draw attention to pertinent and topical ICT issues, and more importantly to give some insight on how those issues might affect us here in the region.

Few companies in Jamaica today can trace their origins back to 1834. The Gleaner Company Limited is one of these. The Gleaner Company, founded by the brothers Jacob and Joshua deCordova, was established in 1834.

Its first publication was a four-page weekly newspaper, issued on Saturday, September 13, 1834 as an octavio-sized weekly paper. Today, it is a multi-sectioned broad sheet newspaper which is published daily.

The Gleaner was first located at 66 West Harbour Street, Downtown Kingston but soon moved to 156 Harbour Street where it expanded to include a semi-weekly country and fortnightly overseas edition.

The JNBS Foundation was established in 1990 as the charitable arm of the Jamaica National Building Society (JNBS). Our mandate is to manage and execute the philanthropic efforts of the Society, and contribute to the developmental needs of Jamaica.

Built on the concept of mutuality, JNBS gives back to the Jamaican people and communities across the island, by providing financial and technical support to projects and programmes both at the community and at the national level.
